What is Biobased?
Cristalplant® biobased, consists of 50% minerals and 50% polyester bio-resin. It is the very first eco-sustainable solid surface made
from materials of plant origin combined with natural inert minerals of absolute purity. There are a number of characteristics that make this a fully eco-sustainable product: the
30% resin previously of fossil origin has been replaced by polyesters of plant origin from certified cultivations; 50% of its composition derives from aluminium hydrate
recovered from the processing of Bauxite for the extraction of aluminium; it can be recycled and reused at the end of its life as an inert material; it is lighter – its specific
weight has been reduced by 30% – and, therefore, produces less CO2 than similar products currently on the market, and is also easier to handle and install; it is 100% recyclable
even when its surface is scratched, marked or burnt; it is self-extinguishing, with Class 1 fire resistance certification; and it is 100% made in Italy.
Cristalplant® biobased is a material that can be tagged as “VOC” and “BIO-BASED”for “Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design” eco-sustainable certification. The material was certified in 2011 for its use of resins derived from vegetable starch and OGM-free maize; the material contains, in fact, more than 12% of these resins when the minimum requirement is normally 5%.
Who uses Biobased?
The material is used by Agape, Antoniolupi and Falper who have world exclusivity contracts.

100% made in Italy
High fire resistance
Repairable using the relative KIT
CRISTALPLANT® biobased has already obtained recognition and certifications on an international level, including:
- ECV (Environmental Claim Validation) from Underwriters Laboratories (UL) for its composition of natural raw materials and its percentage of easily recyclable raw materials;
- GreenGuard Indoor Air Quality Certification from Underwriters Laboratories (UL), for its content of VOCs (volatile organic compounds).
These certifications make it possible to obtain a higher score during the LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) certification of a building: with regard to air quality in buildings, UL is the one institute recognised on an international level; and while the minimum required level of raw materials of plant origin is 5%, the average value for Cristalplant Biobased is more than 12%.
